Pancakes and Valentines!

So, February. The month of Pancakes and Valentines Day. And as it’s a leap year, the time for women to do the proposing.

So with this in mind, I made some ‘Marry Me’ Cookies that would suit the recipient whether Male or Female, to sell on the website, along with some Valentine Cupcakes. Why not order ’12 Red Roses’ with a difference. Edible ones.

I’m also going to be working on a ‘Cupcake Bouquet’. Which will be available throughout the year, in a variety of colours, along with a beautiful Giant Cupcake.

January saw the arrival of the van for the mobile round, now named ‘The Cakemobile’. Signage will be going on very soon, and then the kitting out of the interior will proceed, once the coffee machine has been decided on. Starting to be a very costly idea, especially as the coffee machine is going to cost almost as much as the van did. Eeekk!

I have been writing a list of all the goodies I plan to sell from ‘The Cakemobile’. But im sure they won’t suit everyones tastes, so suggestions will be welcomed. Cupcakes, Muffins, Traybakes, Flapjacks, Brownies, Cookies etc. Just need to decide on what flavours will sell best.

This weekend was the wedding of 2 friends, who have been together quite a long time now. The Groom I have known for at least 16 years, as he worked for one of our suppliers when I was a Graphic Designer. So, the happy couple asked if I would make the cupcakes for their big day. Of Course I would!

They had chosen to go for 100 cupcakes with a Giant Cupcake as the cutting cake. Personally I dislike Giant Cupcakes. You can’t get cases or wrappers for them (Note to self to invent some). So Buttercream or fondant usually covers the base. They can look quite ghastly. That is until I stumbled across an image of one online, where they had made a case from white chocolate, and decorated the top with swirls like roses, as to a big giant cupcake swirl! It looked amazing. So with a printout in hand, I showed the happy couple. Heidi immediately fell for it, especially as they both Lurve White chocolate. So, with instructions in hand, I produced my first attempt at it. Voila! Success. Well I think so anyway. It took a while on Saturday, baking and decorating.

So today (Sunday 12th February 2012), was their big day. I set off this morning to Old Thorns in Liphook, with the husband and children in tow, to set up the display of cupcakes. I left the 3 of them at the Starbucks door, and headed to the back of the hotel to start setting up.

The room was beautiful, with all the flowers and decorations. Its such a lovely place to get married, or have a party at. They have successfully made the whole venue look amazing. They hold Tribute nights there, with huge turnouts (especially FAKE THAT), my fave.

So, above is the photo of the cakes all set up. Tomorrow it’s the Round 2 of Bake off in my house, as I start making all the orders for Valentines Day. Then deliver them around the country to all the lucky loved ones.

All that is left to say now is a huge CONGRATULATIONS to our friends Craig & Heidi Salczynski!

Mobile cake and coffee round

In January we are starting a Mobile Cake and Coffee round. Visiting businesses within a radius stretching to Petersfield, Alton, Farnham and Haslemere. This may stretch further afield if the demand and response is good.

The leaflets are back from the printers, so over the next few weeks, I will be baking lots of mini cupcakes and bakes, and visiting tonnes of Business Parks, Offices and Industrial Estates to promote the van round.

We will be selling a selection of cupcakes, cakes and cookies, along with a variety of fresh coffee.

So if you are interested in our van visiting your workplace, drop us an email with your details and we will get back to you.

In the meantime, SPREAD THE WORD....

A cake with a difference

So, last week I had an order for a 40th Birthday cake with a difference. A pink sports bag, with purple trainers, an iPhone, a Benefit Lipgloss and a TRX contraption. This was a first for me, but nevertheless, it was fun!

Even though there were late nights involved (1.30am), I was determined for the cake to look as good as possible. A 40th birthday is a very special occasion indeed!

The week was finished with an order for a Giant Cupcake for a very loyal customer, for her Husband and Son who were celebrating their birthdays.

Almost Christmas

Well, this is my first ever Blog posting, so please bear with me...

So, what with it being almost Christmas, I am facing the task of deciding what to sell and show on my stall at the forthcoming Christmas Fairs I will be at. Christmas Fairs don't seem to be like they were when I was growing up. I have great memories of spending an entire Saturday at them, queueing up to see Father Christmas, who would be put in a small room or cupboard somewhere with a red velvet curtain as the door. Lots of stalls and things going on all day. These days, they are only for a few hours, either directly after school at 3pm, or in the evening as a shopping event for the parents, not the children. Which is a shame I think.

So knowing how much to take is quite daunting. At one summer Fair I was at this year, I made 50 plain cupcakes, each in their own little pod, with several piping bags of buttercream and tonnes of sprinkles, for the kids to decorate their own.I sold out completely.

I also had iced cupcakes in several flavours, and cookies. But it was a whole day event.

I now prduce a wider variety of 'bakes', and with it being nearly Christmas, its getting wider daily! Im trying to appeal to a wider range of customers, with things like Fudge, Gingerbread Houses, Cookie Mixes in jars, Shortbread, that can all be given as gifts at Christmas, alongside the usual items available from us.

So its going to be a busy week of baking for the upcoming events, alongside my cake orders. Once I decide what to bake, that is!
